As with all animal lovers, we dream of being able to take care of every homeless animal.

As we begin the journey of helping as many as we are able, we will house our Sanctuary Anipals in our directors' homes. As we build on the dream, we hope to find land, build a facility and create a dream - A haven for dogs and kitties to live out their lives as a family member. There may, on occasion, be an Anipal that will thrive better in an environment that is not quite so hectic as a home with a lot of siblings. Once rehabilitated, we will find that Anipal the perfect home. Not our focus, because the Sanctuary will always be a forever home to the Anipals that live there.

We dream of a place where the great room is the biggest room in the house, filled with a warm fireplace, comfy beds, and for those who want a cave to burrow in - cushy crates for them to escape to. There will be green fields to run in and a pond to splash in if the desire takes over. A quiet room for those who aren't as social, and a Quarantine room for the newbies to acclimate in, or those who need to, can recover in. A first aid room, along with grooming facilities. A separate kitty room that will have kitty trees to climb on and a recliner and TV for humans to hang out with the kitties. We dream of being able to house at least 50 dogs, but the sky is the limit based on the space we are able to find.

We dream of having a yearly Halloween event, with a costume contest, bobbing for hot dogs, weenie dog races, and a Treat Hunt at Easter time. We dream of having an agility course where we can work with the Sanctuary Anipals, but also have available for clubs to rent out and hold events... all to benefit the Sanctuary.

A dream can only come to life if you follow it... so here we go!

As we talk about "we", we must explain who the "we" are! A group of 5 animal lovers met in a dachshund website forum. One of these women was a standout... her heart is huge and her love and commitment to animals is greater than anyone I have ever known. Her name is Andrea Newborg. She is retiring this year after serving 20 years in the US Navy. She has dedicated her life thus far to helping animals that need her. When our facility is built, Andrea will be The Caretaker of the Anipals. She is a natural with animals and making them instantaneously comfortable in her home. As The Sanctuary develops, through the Sanctuary Blog you will learn more about Andrea and the co-founders of Jethro's Anipal Sanctuary, Inc.: Patrice Schoppe, Rae Wagoner, Paula Romanow and Barb Ivey.
